How Do I Let Her Down Easy?

Dear Advice Girl,

I recently heard rumors that a girl I know has a crush on me. The feeling isn't mutual, and I don't know how to ask her if the rumors are true without looking like a jerk. How can I confirm the rumors so I can safely tell her no?

Dear Del,

If you don't like her, then why do you care so much about whether she likes you? Leave the poor girl alone and don't try to find out more about the rumor (from her or anyone else).

And don't feel like you have to let her down easy, or let her down at all. If she knew how you felt, I'm sure she'd want you to pretend like the whole thing never happened.
