I want to be friends with my ex, but it's really hard cuz he broke my heart, and when he's with his new girlfriend it makes me cry. Plz help me, I don't know what to do!

Dear Kyla,

If the sight of your ex makes you sad, then you're not ready to be his friend. Shoot, you're not even ready to look at his Facebook page.

Every breakup needs a cooling-off period, where both people stay out of each other's hair for a while, or as long as it takes the pain to stop. It may take a couple of weeks, or a couple of months, or even longer. But if you both want to stay sane and move on, it's gotta happen.

Give yourself a break from your ex. Don't hang out with him, don't call him, and if you find yourself thinking about him too hard, snap out of it.

After a while, seeing him around won't make you sad anymore. And that's when you can give that whole friendship thing a shot.
