How long will it take to get over him?

Dear Advice Girl,

My boyfriend dumped me last Wednesday. We were together 13 months, and I love him so much.

He wants to be friends, but I can’t move on. I am trying to but it’s hard. Will I ever get over him?

Oh, you poor thing. I wish I could say something that would take the pain away, but I can’t - ‘cause no matter what, it's gonna hurt for a while.

And that’s normal. Breakups = a whole lotta hurt. Always.

How long will it hurt for? It’s hard to say. Some people say it takes half the length of the relationship, other people say it’s twice the length. None of them know what they’re talking about. The truth is, it’s totally different for everyone.

So spend some time being bummed about it – it’s okay. But try to occupy your time with other stuff, too (like friends, and hobbies, and your family). It won’t instantly make you feel better, but it’ll help.
