What Should I Write In My Breakup Letter?

Dear Advice Girl,

I want to write a letter to my boyfriend letting him know I don't want to date him anymore. What should I write in my break up letter?

Signed,
   Shayna

Dear Shayna,

Before I tell you how to write a breakup letter, let me first say this: don't write a breakup letter. It might make things easier for you, but it's an insult to your boyfriend at a time when you're already kicking him to the curb.

Do the mature thing and break up with him in person. It's just good karma.

If you're still too chicken, then shame on you - but at least promise me you'll follow these rules when you write your letter:

  • No typing allowed. Breakup letters are already super impersonal. Don't make yours even worse by sending it over email, IM or text.

  • Get to the point. It's not fair to make him wade through five pages just to get to the bad news.

  • End your relationship for good. By the time he's done reading the letter, he should know without a doubt that things are finished between him and you.

  • Let him know you're around if he wants to talk things out. You're dumping him, but that doesn't mean you get to disappear.

  • (This is the most important rule of all!) Wait a day before you send it. When you reread it in the morning, you might change your mind about some of the stuff you've written. You might even change your mind about whether or not you want to send it at all.

well it is true the guy/girl should not have to wade through 5 or 6 pages to hear the bad news then again sometimes u should just make it seem like everything is ok and just when the letter is getting to the nice part just burst the bubble nletting the person know that it is over.

Letters and text are prob. the hardest to get over at least for me just tell him in person its not as hard as you think. I mean would you rather have a guy write a letter or would you rather do it face to face. Ur first question should have been that face to face or letter? The choice is urs good luck and i hope u amke the right choice :/
