6 Reasons to Break Up With Your Boyfriend

Dear Advice Girl,

I've been thinking about breaking up with my boyfriend, but I'm not sure if it's for the right reasons. It is possible to break up for the wrong reasons? Please help!

Dear Sal,

There's a ton of reasons why it might be time to break up with your boyfriend. Here are the six biggest ones:

1. He's hurt you in any way - physically or emotionally. Get out now. Seriously. If you're not sure if what he's doing is abuse, check the signs.
   
   
2. You're more sad than happy. Relationships aren't going to be all roses all the time, but they should bring a little joy to your life. If things are too frustrating or depressing, then get out while you still can.
   
   
3. You're doing all the work in the relationship. As in: you're planning all the dates, you're initiating all the kisses, and if you never called him, then you'd never hear from him again. He probably wants to break up but is too chicken to do it himself.
   
   
4. He's cheated. If you don't have, like, kids or a mortgage, there's no reason to stay in a relationship when the trust is gone.
   
   
5. You've cheated. It's a sign that you'd rather be single. Don't do your guy any favors by sticking with him - he'll only get hurt in the long run.
   
   
6. You just feel like it's time to move on. You don't need a real, concrete reason to break up, as long as you feel it in your gut. Just tell him that things have changed and that you want to be single again.
