Should I ask him to prom?

Dear Advice Girl,

There’s this guy I like at school. I don’t know if he has a GF. I really want to ask him to the prom this year but I’m afraid that he’ll say no. What do I do?

Dear Unknown,

Rule of thumb about prom: you don’t want to go with someone who’s practically a stranger to you. (Why? ‘Cause it’ll make the whole thing awkward when all you should be doing is having fun and partying down.)

So if this guy’s your ultimate prom date, quit wasting time and get to know him. Chat him up and become his pal. If you’re too nervous to do that, then sharing the most memorable night of your teenage years with him is probably not the best plan.

And just in case he has a girlfriend, you’d better make sure you have one of those funny, sweet platonic guys on reserve for the big night. They make the best dates anyway.
