Can I go out with my cousin's crush?

Dear Advice Girl,

My cousin and I like the same guy. He’s told me he likes me, not her. But I don’t want to hurt her feelings. Will it make me a bad cousin if I go out with him??

Well, yeah. The rule is: if two friends (or, you know, cousins) like the same guy at the same time, then in order to be truly fair, neither one should date him. That way no one gets hurt over a relationship that wouldn’t last that long anyway. (Unlike your cousin-ness, which lasts forever.)

Sorry, but that’s the way it goes. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a guy in order to do the right thing.

But don’t worry too much about it. Another guy is probably right around the corner.
