I'm desperate for a first date!

Dear Advice Girl,

I’m a sophomore in high school and I still have not had a first date yet. To make things worse, the freshmen have already gotten dates, and now I just want to go up to all the girls in my school until one says yes. What should I do, and how can I ask someone out with out looking like an idiot?

Dear First Dateless, Lonely and Lost,

If you try to ask out every girl in your school, yes, you will look like (pardon my French) an idiot. Any desperate attempts to get a date will make you look, well, desperate. So erase all those get-dates-quick schemes from your plans right this minute.

You’re crushing on people for the wrong reason. You’d date anyone for the sake of scoring a date, instead of because, uh, you actually like them. Girls can tell the difference. Chances are, they’re not gonna fall for it.

Take a break from crushing for a while. Forget about first dates and concentrate on being a good friend and a more confident person. When the right girl comes along, you’ll know it – and she’ll know it – and asking her out will be a (relative) breeze.
