My Mom Says I'm Too Young To Date!

Dear Advice Girl,

My mom is strict and says I can't date till I turn 15. When guys ask me out, I have no choice but to say no!!! It's so embarrassing to say that my mom won't let me. Should I sneak out and date anyway???

Signed,
   Hopeless Romantic

Dear Hopeless Romantic,

Here's the rule with strict parents: you've gotta play by their rules, or else they'll get mad and give you even more rules. If you do anything behind their backs, you're just asking for it.

Your one way out (besides, you know, turning 15) is to try to compromise. See if she'd be cool with having your bf-wannabe over for dinner, or "pre-dating" - hanging out with him in a friendly group setting. The more mature you are about it, the better she'll listen.

BTW, there's no shame in telling a guy that you can't date yet. If he likes you enough, he'll be cool with it...and if not, well, good riddance.

Love,

15 isn't a bad age. I'm 16 and have my first boyfriend and I do not regret waiting. I know it sounds stupid, but you'll love yourself for being more mature both physically and mentally. You will have higher chances of finding a guy who can drive, and thats a huge plus. Also you will be into high school at that point, and in return will meet all kinds of boys that will have your interests in common. Don't stress about it too much, build some amazing friendships while your younger. I waited, and now the guy I'm dating is a real keeper not to mention a sincere gentleman =]
