The Rules for Calling Your Crush

Dear Advice Girl,

I'm talking to this girl, and today she didn't respond to my text for like an hour. So I called her. No answer. Then I called right back, no answer. I called back an hour later, no answer. Then I texted again.

Finally she texted back to say sorry, she was sick and asleep. Did I screw up? Scare her maybe?

Amazingly, you might not have screwed anything up. After all, she texted you back. To apologize. Not to warn you about a restraining order.

But that's just luck on your part. In the future, always follow these rules for calling and texting your crush:

1. If you text or call someone, don't do it again till you hear back from them. Two messages in a row can come off as desperate.
   
   
2. Don't wait by the phone. If they call, they call - but there's nothing you can do to make them do it sooner. In the meantime, occupy yourself with another activity so you don't feel compelled to pick up the phone again.
   
   
3. If you notice that you're always the one who gets in touch first, it might be a sign that they're not into you. That doesn't mean you should ditch them. Just be aware of it. You might want to hold off on your next call, just to give them a chance to chase after you for once.
