Can you get a guy without acting slutty?

Dear Advice Girl,

I want a boyfriend, but I don’t want to act all slutty like all the other girls act, and I don't want to act desperate either. What do I do?

Dear Carrie,

There’s a lot of stuff you can do that can help land a boyfriend – like acting friendly, having the courage to start conversations, and making eye contact and smiling. You won't definitely score a guy that way. It’ll just make things easier when that hot potential boyfriend comes along.

But when you meet that guy, I forbid you to act like someone you’re not. Don't do anything that makes you feel weird, or uncomfortable, or – you know – slutty. It’s bad for your self esteem (and your reputation) to tramp it up or change your personality around around a guy.

So, just to recap: flirting = good. Fake flirting = bad. Slutty flirting = OMG, put that stuff away already.
