He flirts - so why doesn't he like me?

Dear Advice Girl,

I flirt with this guy and he always flirts back. But when I told him I liked him, he just ignored the question like it never happened.

I don't get it! I mean, if he flirts with me all the time and everyone in our class thinks he likes me, why won't he admit it?

Just 'cause a guy flirts, it doesn't mean he wants to date you.

Think about it - flirting's kind of like a game. Some guys just like the thrill of playing without having to make a commitment.

By telling him you liked him, you ruined the fun for him, which is why he pretended it didn't happen. It was immature of him to ignore your feelings like that. But you were totally right to try to take it to the next level. (After all, why keep flirting when what you really want is a date?)

Now that your secret's out, quit being so flirty. If he doesn't want to date you, it'll help you get over him. And on the off chance that he does, cooling off might clue him in that he'd better make his move already.
