She only flirts when her friends are around!

Dear Advice Girl,

The girl that I like won’t talk to me in school, but when she’s with some of her friends (like at the mall, or on a bus), she’ll start talking to me. Why does she suddenly want to talk when her friends are there?

Don’t freak out – it’s probably just because she’s shy, and being around her friends makes her more confident.

Which sucks for you, ‘cause it’s intimidating to flirt with a girl while a bunch of her friends are eavesdropping.

So if you want to level the playing field, I recommend talking to her online. That way, your convo will be private and casual. Send her an IM or Facebook message – if she wants to get to know you better, she’ll totally write back. (And you’ll just have to take her word that her BFF isn’t looking over her shoulder.)
