Am I really too young for him?

Dear Advice Girl,

I met this guy who’s absolutely gorgeous! We started talking, and he asked my if I had a boyfriend. I told him no and he asked, "Why not?! You’re really hott!" Then he wanted to know what I was looking for in a guy.

We talked pretty often and I began to think he liked me. But then he told my best friend that he thinks I’m really sweet and pretty, but I’m too young. We’re a year apart! I don’t get it! Does he really think I’m too young for him, or is he just trying to come up with an excuse? If you ask me, it’s a pretty lame excuse.

Or could he possibly really like me and is afraid to admit it?

It doesn’t sound like that guy is afraid to admit anything. He’s already pulled a bunch of classic (read: lame) one-liners on you, so he’s obviously pretty comfortable with the ladies and doesn’t hold anything back.

Does he really think you’re too young? Maybe. Maybe he only dates grandmas. Or maybe he was trying to reject you and sound mature in front of your friend at the same time. It doesn’t matter. He’s made it clear that, despite all his smooth moves, he’s not interested. Hold onto your dignity and get over him. (You may be “too young” for him, or whatever, but your maturity level is leaps and bounds ahead of his).
