Guys always fall in love with me!

Dear Advice Girl,

Every time I date a guy, he ends up falling madly in love with me super quickly. Then, a month or two into the relationship, I end up realizing we’re not right for each other. The boy is then shattered for ages and never gets over me.

It hurts me more than anything breaking these guys’ hearts. Should I just stop dating? Am I doing something wrong? I feel like a horrible person.

Dear Heartbreaker,

You're not a horrible person, and you don’t have to give up dating. But you should probably quit bringing all those nice boys to tears. Here’s how:

• Don’t be so quick to date them. Just ‘cause you think a guy is cute doesn’t mean he has to be your boyfriend. Keep it friends-only, and only take things further if you’re still into him after a couple of months. That way, if you change your mind, he won’t be emotionally involved enough to get his heart broken.
  
  
• When you date a guy, take it slow, alright? No weekend-long marathon dates, no late night texts just to say you miss them, no “I love you” before you really mean it. If a guy knows you can live without him, he might not make himself so vulnerable.
  
  
• Rip off the Band-Aid. Once you decide you wanna get out, get out. Breaking things off gradually – by being distant and not returning his phone calls – will add to his obsession with you. Be firm about breaking up and it’ll be easier for him to heal.
