Dear Advice Girl,

I got a new girlfriend a few days ago, and I’m afraid it won’t work out. I mean I bet she’s the only fish in the sea that likes me. What do I do?

So, wait. Nothing’s actually going wrong? You’re just scared that something’s gonna go wrong, ‘cause...well, basically, if she broke up with you, you don’t think you could score another girlfriend?

Dude. That is so not the way you should think of relationships. You’re thinking, “Being single is terrible, so I’d better do whatever I can to cling to this girl for dear life.” That’s crazy – how do you even know she’s the right girl for you? Here’s what you should be thinking:

“Hey, this is a new experience for both of us. Maybe it’ll work out. Maybe she’ll lose interest in me – or maybe I’ll lose interest in her. Either way, if we break up, it’s not the end of the world. It just means we weren’t right for each other. And then I’ll go back to being single, which is just fine by me.”

Got it? Good. Now say it 500 times in front of the mirror every morning.
